Homelessness and family violence

There are 24 hour, state-wide services available if you are homeless, at risk of homelessness or escaping family violence.

People experiencing homelessness not only need a roof over their head, but practical support to help them overcome the issues that can cause homelessness.

Do you need help?

If you are homeless, at risk of homelessness or escaping family violence, you can contact your nearest crisis support centre for assistance or you may wish to apply for housing.

Homelessness

Victoria has an integrated homelessness and housing system which is designed as a progressive pathway out of homelessness.

Family violence

Since July 2006, our funded family violence services have been working in partnership to provide a more integrated response to family violence.

Indigenous support

Census data from 1991 shows Indigenous families to be approximately 16 times more likely than other Australian families to be homeless, and to be twice as likely to be living in poverty after paying housing costs. A number of programs exist specifically for people from Indigenous backgrounds who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
